Stephen King's horror epic IT has been adapted several times to the screen, most recently in the popular IT movie and TV franchise directed by Barbara and Andy Muschietti and produced by Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO. For horror film fans and afficionados, Port Hope is known as "the real-life Derry, Maine," the fictional small town where IT, the terrifying child-snatching clown Pennywise, lurks.

Tour the IT filming locations in Port Hope (in daylight)!

If you've seen the movies and TV series, you'll recognize many iconic Derry landmarks, like the Memorial Park bandshell, the Capitol Theatre marquee, and the eerie mural behind "Quality Meats" (where you can still find the back door sign and mural for a souvenir selfie). Pick up a copy of the IT Walking Tour brochure or follow along on your smartphone on the digital tour map that shows you every creepy set location from the movies. Also coming soon is a brand new tour brochure with set locations from the hit TV series IT: Welcome to Derry, available for streaming in Canada on Crave.

Derry Maine tourism posters

Port Hope’s Visitors Centre doubled as the Derry Chamber of Commerce. The grown Losers saw their younger selves reflected in the windows.

Behind the scenes of the parade from IT chapter 1

Queen Street was the site of Fourth of July parade in It Chapter 1.

Filming notice signage

“Largo” was the top secret name given to the filming of It Chapter 2. Fans were well aware of the filming despite efforts to keep it secret.

In the alley between Walton Street and Brogden’s Lane a mural depicts the history of Derry. It’s a great selfie location for visitors to Port Hope.
